The Asia Cup 2022 will get underway on August 27 and India will face Pakistan in their first outing. With only 18 days to go for the tournament, Indian selectors came together to select the players.
The Indian squad for the Asia Cup 2022 was announced yesterday. Fans were divided on the selection. While a few considered it to be a good team, others wanted experienced players like Mohammed Shami in it. Sanju Samson also has been left out of the squad once again, despite impressive performances. Fans demanded on social media that the wicket-keeper deserved a chance.
Deepak Chahar, Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel were named as the stand-by players. In the pace department, Avesh Khan got a nod ahead of Mohammed Shami and it has left fans puzzled. Kuldeep Yadav was not selected, while Ravi Bishnoi, who has been a part of the T20I squad for a while, got the go-ahead.
Jasprit Bumrah missed out due to a back injury and this might haunt India in the long run of the tournament. The fierce pacer will be sent to Bangalore to get fit for the home series against South Africa and Australia. He will look to get fit before the 20-20 World Cup 2022.
Veteran and former India skipper Virat Kohli made it back to the squad. KL Rahul also got a go-ahead and will be the deputy for Rohit Sharma in the upcoming Asia Cup 2022. Prasidh Krishna missed out on the opportunity while Arshdeep Singh made it to the squad. Ravi Ashwin made it to the squad as expected. This Indian squad is more likely to make a few changes for the 20-20 World Cup to be held in Australia later this year.
The Indian squad for the Asia Cup 2022: Rohit Sharma (Captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Dinesh Karthik (wicket-keeper), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, R. Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravi Bishnoi, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan
Here’s how Twitter reacted to the exclusion of Sanju Samson from the squad:
Do you guys feel that Sanju Samson should have been there in the Asia Cup Squad? He never got consistent run in T20i by the mgt.
