Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been reportedly ruled out of the 20-20 World Cup due to injury. Bangladesh have two matches left in their 20-20 World Cup campaign against South Africa and Australia. The team has lost all their Super 12 games and are not in contention for a playoff berth anymore.

Shakib was the lone bright spot for Bangladesh in a rather gloomy season for the Tigers. The ace spinner is the second-highest wicket-taker in the tournament with eleven wickets in six games. Bangladesh expected Shakib to deliver with the bat as well but his performances were pretty ordinary in the tournament. The southpaw could score just 131 runs at an average of 21.83 in the six games. Over the years, Shakib has held fort for the team in the middle order, playing crucial knocks. However, with Shakib not firing, the batting was always going to struggle.

Speaking about Bangladesh, they failed to automatically qualify for the playoffs and had to play a qualifier round to book their berth in Super 12s. They had come into the tournament with back to back series wins over Australia and New Zealand, and on spin friendly wickets, they were a real threat. However, their batting came as a copper in the tournament. They started on a miserable note, suffering a crushing defeat to Scotland in the opening game. However, they bound back to comprehensively beat Oman and Papua New Guinea to qualify for the Super 12s.

Earlier, several former cricketers had slammed the board for preparing dust bowls in the home series against Australia and New Zealand. Many believed that the team won’t be able to prepare for the World Cup in the best possible way by playing on such wickets. Even Shakib had urged the curators to prepare sporting wickets for the New Zealand series but that didn't happen and one can say that preparing one-sided wickets eventually came back to haunt Bangladesh in the global event.
