Celebrated Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is likely to give the Pakistan Super League a miss to play in the Dhaka Premier League that gets underway on May 31. Shakib Al Hasan along with Liton Das and Mahmudullah were picked by the PSL franchises in a replacement draft for the remainder of PSL.
According to reports, an official of Mohammedan Sporting Club, one of the participating team in the tournament, confirmed that Shakib Al Hasan submitted a letter to the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis, stating that he wants to play the Dhaka Premier League.
“We have submitted a letter signed by Shakib to CCDM that says he is keen to take part in the competition for us,” Tarikul Islam Tito, a top official of MSC told Cricbuzz.
“He will not play in the PSL and instead opted to be part of our team in DPL. He is a free player because he was not part of the 2019-20 DPL due to his ban and now as he is eligible to take part and we have shown our keenness to take him in our side. BCB is yet to grant him for us but we hope to get the permission soon,” he said.
The Bangladesh skipper was picked up by Lahore Qalandars for the remainder of the PSL while Liton Das and Mahmudullah were signed by Karachi Kings and Multan Sultans respectively.
The 2021 edition of the PSL was postponed after a series of COVID-19 cases among players and support staff. The PCB then decided to resume the league from June 1st at the National Stadium in Karachi. However, with a surge in COVID-19 cases in the city, the PCB is looking for an alternative venue. They are currently in touch with the Emirates Cricket Board to host the remainder of PSL.
