Bangladesh spinner Shakib Al Hasan is now leading the charts of most wickets in the 20-20 World Cup. Shakib, who entered the Super 12 game against Sri Lanka with 39 wickets in 28 matches, dismissed Pathum Nissanka to go to the helm. Shakib surpassed Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi, who has 39 wickets in 34 games. A couple of balls later, he dismissed Avishka Fernando for his 41st wicket of the tournament.

Recently, Shakib surpassed Lasith Malinga to become the leading wickettaker in T20Is. The all-rounder now has 117 wickets to his name, 10 more than the second best Lasith Malinga.

Meanwhile, Shakib's spell of 17-2 could not help Bangladesh get off to a winning start in the Super 12s as the team went down to Sri Lanka by 5 wickets. Despite posting a challenging total of 171, Bangladesh bowlers could not contain Sri Lanka batters. Charith Asalanka played a whirlwind knock of 80 while Bhanuka Rajapaksa stroked 53 to take Sri Lanka home. From Bangladesh, Mohammad Naim top scored with 62, while Mushfiqur Rahim scored 57.
