After registering two losses in the first two matches at the 20-20 World Cup 2022, Pakistan made a remarkable comeback to reach the final of the tournament. However, despite that, former Pakistan skipper, Shahid Afridi wants Babar Azam to quite captaincy in the shortest format and focus on his batting and leading the team in other two formats.

"Babar was not happy with the management at Karachi Kings as it is. I feel he should take a tough call and quit captaincy in T20 cricket. He should focus on his batting and lead the team in Tests and one-dayers," Afridi said.

Babar Azam struggled to deliver with the bat in the tournament. He never got going with the bat and could only manage to score 124 runs in 7 matches at a strike rate of 93.23. Afridi reckons that players like Shadab Khan, M Rizwan, and Shan Masood can replace Babar Azam as the captain of the Pakistan Cricket Team.

'I respect Babar a lot and that's why I don't want him to take the pressure of captaincy in T20 cricket. I want him to focus on his captaincy in longer formats. You do have players like Shadab, Rizwan and even Shan Masood who can lead the team in the T20 format," Afridi added.

After losing the first two matches, Pakistan had lost all hopes of reaching the semi-finals. However, a dramatic turn of events meant they got on more opportunity and they grabbed that with both hands. Zimbabwe pulled off an upset to beat South Africa and it helped Pakistan reach the knockouts. Later, the Men in Green beat New Zealand in the semi-final as well to make it to the final.

But, unfortunately, they missed out on the final hurdle as Pakistan lost to England in the final of the 20-20 World Cup 2022 by 10 wickets in Melbourne.
