Former Pakistani all-rounder and analyst Shahid Afridi has slammed the Indian T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, for not shaking hands with Pakistani players after Team India’s seven-wicket win on Sunday, September 14, in Dubai.
Interestingly, Afridi mentioned that the same Suraykumar shook hands with Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chief Mohsin Naqvi at the pre-tournament press conference.
"When the Asia Cup began, social media was filled with the boycott campaigns ahead of the match between India and Pakistan. Considering there was pressure, it is no surprise that the players and the BCCI were told not to shake hands with our team," Afridi said on Pakistan's Samaa TV.
Furthermore, Afridi also stated that there was no sportsmanship from the Indian players, adding that players should be great ambassadors and not an embarrassment in front of the world.
"In my opinion, there was no sportsman spirit. They would once again be shamed in front of the world. I think our stance was bang on. Our PCB chairman has taken the right stand. Overall, it's outstanding," he added.
"I have always said that players should be great ambassadors and not an embarrassment. I don't want to fault the Indian cricketers; they were given orders from up above," he noted.
"The same Suryakumar Yadav shook hands with Salman Agha and Mohsin Naqvi at the captains' press conference. Now in front of the crowd, the government was not able to handle the social media pressure. Indian players have now become an embarrassment in front of the world," he concluded.
Interestingly, Salman Ali skipped the post-match presentation ceremony against India after the no-handshake controversy. Moreover, Pakistan also skipped the pre-match press conference before the UAE game. Nevertheless, Pakistan is all set to take on the UAE on Wednesday, September 17 in Dubai.
