A new setback has been handed down to Sarfaraz Khan's attempt to return to the Indian Test team. It was anticipated that the 27-year-old batter, who hasn't played for the nation since the 2024–25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, would use the current competitions at home to re-establish himself. However, an unfortunate injury has kept him out of action, which has halted his progress at a pivotal point in his career.

Sarfaraz Khan's form and health were on his side as he reminded selectors that he was ready for a Test comeback by smashing consecutive hundreds in the Buchi Babu Invitational. However, the Mumbai batter's aspirations were crushed on Sunday when he was ruled out of the Duleep Trophy due to an ailment that could keep him out till late September.

Sarfaraz is presently receiving rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, according to a Times of India story. With the squad receiving a bye to the semi-finals, Sarfaraz was scheduled to play for the reigning champions against Central Zone beginning on September 4 at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. However, even if West Zone advances that far, he will no longer be able to play in the final.

Sarfaraz sustained a quadriceps injury during his century against Haryana in the Buchi Babu tournament earlier this week, and it would take him at least three weeks to recover, according to a Times of India article.

"Sarfaraz is suffering from a quadriceps injury, which he picked up while scoring a century against Haryana in the Buchi Babu event five days ago. He's set to be out for almost three weeks, and is currently rehabilitating at the CoE," a source confirmed.

He has put a lot of effort into becoming fit, and reports indicate that he lost more than 17 kg in just two months. However, the most recent injury will make his comeback attempt more difficult. Sarfaraz will have to make a speedy comeback and continue to play the way that has maintained his name in the running.
