Speaking about Rahul, he sustained the injury during the IPL 2023 while playing for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). After that, he got ruled out of the World Test Championship (WTC) final and the recent bilateral series for the Men in Blue. Currently, he is in the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Bengaluru and has been having intense sessions in order to get recovered as quickly as possible. On 21 July, the Indian Cricket Board shared an update regarding his injury.

They claimed that Rahul has resumed batting in nets along with some strength and fitness drills. They were also looking to increase their intensity regarding skills, strength, and conditioning. Before IPL, the Indian team management were looking at him as a wicketkeeping option, especially in both the white ball formats. Hence, if he gets fit in the coming days, it will be a huge boost to Rohit Sharma and his men in the context of the upcoming big events like the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka and the ODI World Cup in India. Rahul last played for India in March 2023.
