Sanjay Manjrekar hails Jasprit Bumrah despite Lord’s Test defeat

Former Indian cricketer and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar has heaped praise on the Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah for his heroics in the Lord’s Test, adding that he is showing his greatness in different ways.

Notably, Bumrah achieved his 13th five-wicket haul away from home after taking a total of five wickets in the first innings of the third Test while the surface was assisting batters. Though he couldn’t create an impact initially in the second innings, he scalped the wickets of Chris Woakes and Brydon Carse to turn things upside down.

"In the first innings, Bumrah showed just how great a bowler he is. This was the kind of pitch where he could not really display his full range, so he bowled patiently and waited for opportunities. And when the moment came -- in the latter half of the innings -- he was ready. He picked up five wickets in the first innings on a surface that did not offer much assistance,” Manjrekar told JioStar.

"Then, when Washington Sundar took four key wickets (in the second innings) and India needed to wrap up England quickly, Bumrah stepped in again and delivered. That yorker to dismiss Brydon Carse is still fresh in the mind. Showing his greatness in different ways -- that has become Bumrah's legacy," he added.

Later, the former Indian cricketer also talked about the game-changing moment for Team India, stating that Rishabh Pant’s run-out on 74 runs to end the 141-run partnership with KL Rahul turned out to be in England’s favour. However, Manjrekar hailed Ben Stokes for his brilliance with the run out.

"When I look at the turning points and the small mistakes made, I feel India lost this Test match because of those little errors. There were no major blunders -- even Rishabh Pant's run-out was just one of those minor mistakes. But this is where the brilliance of Ben Stokes comes in. He mentioned in his interview that Pant stuttered slightly, and he sensed an opportunity for a run-out,” he stated.
