Chris Morris turned out to be the most expensive overseas player in the IPL auction and was sold to Rajasthan Royals for a whopping 16.25 crores.Talking about his selection, RR’s director of cricket Kumar Sangakkara revealed that Morris will have a huge role to play in supporting Jofra Archer. Speaking at the Virtual Conference, Sangakkara said, "Morris was significantly high in terms of auction price. Morris has a very specific role for us to play in supporting (Jofra) Archer. It gives us a lot more flexibility in the way we use Archer.”

He further added that even though Morris has been bought at a significantly high price, his numbers are on par with the best when he's fit. He said that Morris is an impact player and has a lot to offer to the team.

"Also, Morris' numbers, when he is (has) been fit and strong, has been some of the best in all IPLs, especially at the depth his numbers are probably at number one, and in terms of game impact he is very much in that top bracket. So, his ability in that sense is very crucial for us, then it frees us up to kind of how, think of how to use Archer in other ways.”

When asked about what made Rajasthan Royals  consider Chris Morris, Sangakkara revealed that it was Morris’ stats as a bowler that’s among the best in the IPL. He also added that Morris’ ability to bat is an added bonus but RR had Shivam Dube and Rahul Tewatiya to fill the shoes of an all rounder so the prime reason of buying Morris was his skills with the ball. Morris will join the likes of Mustafizur Rahman, Jofra Archer, Andrew Tye as a pace bowling set up in Rajasthan Royals.
