According to Prithvi Shaw, a batter for India, the great Sachin Tendulkar still believes in him and has encouraged him to make a huge comeback.
Since being cut from the Mumbai squad for the Ranji Trophy 2024–25, Shaw has been going through the most difficult time of his professional career. In the lowest moment in his life to date, he also failed to sell in the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) mammoth auction.
Shaw recently confessed that during difficult periods in his career, Sachin Tendulkar had helped him. Shaw has been close to Tendulkar's son Arjun since he was a little boy. He said he recently met with the cricket star, who encouraged him to get back on track.
"Sachin sir knows about my journey. Arjun and I have been friends since we were 8-9 years old. We’ve played together, grown up together. Sir was also there sometimes. I had a word with him a little while ago, too. Hardly 2 months ago. He was practicing at the MIG. And I was there too. I spoke to him then, too. When things go awry and you drift away, you need that mentor, who can light a spark into you,” Shaw told News24.
Shaw has played 5 Tests, 6 ODIs, and one T20I for India since his debut in 2018. However, he hasn’t been able to cement his spot owing to technical shortcomings and form, and fitness issues.
'Prithvi, I still believe in you’- Shaw reveals Sachin Tendulkar’s words
Furthermore, Shaw also revealed how Tendulkar encouraged him, saying that he still has a long life ahead of him.
“He still believes in me. He said, 'Prithvi, I still believe in you, and I'll continue to do so'. Because he has seen me grow up. Even today, he tells me 'Sahi track pe aa ja, jaise pehle tha' (Come back on the same track as earlier). Everything is possible in the next 13-14 years. So he believes in me and that means a lot," he added.
Shaw has written to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) requesting a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to swap teams before the forthcoming domestic season, indicating his intention to play for a different side in domestic cricket.
Shaw stated in a letter to the MCA that he was given the chance to play for a different state association and believes it will help him advance as a cricket player.
