The third edition of the SA20 tournament concluded recently, with MI Cape Town (MICT) emerging as champions. They secured their maiden title with a dominant 76-run victory over Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC) in the final.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape had the opportunity to make history by winning the tournament for the third consecutive time. However, MI Cape Town denied them the hat-trick and lifted the trophy for the first time.

MI Cape Town had a fantastic season, finishing at the top of the group stage with seven wins in 10 matches, collecting 35 points. Paarl Royals (PR) secured second place with seven wins and 28 points. Sunrisers Eastern Cape finished third with five wins and 24 points.

Joburg Super Kings (JSK) finished fourth in the group stage with four wins and 19 points, securing the final playoff spot. Pretoria Capitals (PC) and Durban Super Giants (DSG) struggled throughout the tournament. Pretoria Capitals finished fifth with 14 points and just two wins, while Durban Super Giants ended at the bottom with only 12 points and two wins.

In the first playoff match, MICT defeated Paarl Royals to book their spot in the final. The Royals then got another chance in the second playoff, but they lost to SEC, finishing third.

Joburg Super Kings, who finished fourth in the group stage, faced SEC in the eliminator. However, they couldn’t get past the defending champions and were knocked out.

The tournament had significant prize money, with the winners and top performers earning big rewards:

Champions (MI Cape Town) – 34 million ZAR

Runners-up (Sunrisers Eastern Cape) – 16.25 million ZAR

Third place (Paarl Royals) – 8.9 million ZAR

Fourth place (Joburg Super Kings) – 7.85 million ZAR

Top Individual Performers

Leading Run-Scorer: Lhuan-dre Pretorius (Paarl Royals) – 397 runs in 12 innings at a strike rate of 166.80, including three half-centuries. He received 200,000 ZAR.

Leading Wicket-Taker & Player of the Tournament: Marco Jansen (Sunrisers Eastern Cape) – 19 wickets in 13 innings at an economy of 7.14, including a four-wicket haul. His all-round performances also saw him win the Player of the Tournament award, earning a total of 350,000 ZAR.

Rising Star of the Tournament: Dewald Brevis (MI Cape Town) – 291 runs in 10 innings at an average of 48.50 and a strike rate of 184.17. He was rewarded with 100,000 ZAR.
