The Netherlands have managed to rope in legendary cricketer Ryan ten Doeschate as the mentor of the team for their upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa starting from November 26 to December 1. The former Dutch all-rounder had earlier stated his wish to call it quits from international cricket after the Netherlands failed to qualify for the Super 12 stage in the ongoing 20-20 World Cup.

The seasoned campaigner couldn’t get going with the bat and ball in the tournament as the Netherlands lost all the three matches against Ireland, Namibia, and Sri Lanka. This display from the Dutch team surprised the onlookers of the game since the Netherlands came with a good amount of experience under their belt. Now, the team has a chance to do well in the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa.

Netherlands head coach Ryan Campbell sounded optimistic about the team doing well in the 50-over format, and said few youngsters in the team will learn a lot by playing in South Africa.  “After the disappointment of the World Cup, we will look to bounce back against a very good South African outfit. I’m extremely excited to take HCC youngsters Boris Gorlee, Musa Ahmad, and Clayton Floyd with us. The experience of living and breathing international cricket in South Africa will be invaluable for them,” Campbell was quoted as saying in ESPNcricinfo.

The Netherlands series will kick-start the bumper home season for South Africa. After the cancellation of England’s limited-overs series and Australia’s Test tour, this is a crucial series for South Africa to get cricket back and revive the financial loss they suffered. The three ODIs between South Africa and the Netherlands will take place on November 26, 28, and December 1 in Centurion.
