England have announced their 12 man squad for the upcoming second Test against India at Chennai and there are few surprising omissions from their squad. While Jofra Archer was ruled out due to an injury, they rested Anderson to keep him fresh for the day-night Test. Buttler will also not be available as he’s gone back home due to ECB’s rotation policy. One player that would feel slightly unlucky to miss out will be Dom Bess. It was a slightly surprising decision to see Root leave out Bess even after his decent performance in the previous game.

Now, Joe Root has revealed the reason for Bess’s omission from the squad. Root said that Bess has been dropped to get their team combination right.

‘It was a very difficult conversation,’ Root said on the decision to axe Bess. ‘It always is when you leave a player out and especially so when it’s someone like Dom who has contributed well and gives absolutely everything every time he pulls an England shirt on. It’s been made very clear what he needs to go away and work on and he’s taken that on board.

‘I’m sure he’ll come back with questions and I’m sure he will be disappointed but that’s what you expect from guys that really care and want to be out there all the time, performing for their country.

Stuart Broad, Moeen Ali, Olly Stone and Chris Woakes are the most probable replacement for the players.
