Team India captain Rohit Sharma has finally opened up on the criticism he has been facing in his career. He strongly stated about the unjustified criticism in his career, which doesn’t go down well with him
Notably, Rohit announced his Test retirement earlier this week, surprising his fans. In an exclusive interview with journalist Vimal Kumar, Rohit spoke candidly about the criticism he has faced throughout his career.
Rohit Sharma, who led Team India to the T20 World Cup 2024 title win and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 trophy victory, hung up his boots from the longest format of the game through an Instagram story ahead of India’s England tour in June and July.
Interestingly, Rohit failed to create an impact as captain and batter of late in the longest format of the game. Having suffered a 0-3 series defeat to New Zealand at home, Rohit faced a lot of criticism. Moreover, India suffered a 1-3 series defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Down Under.
To make things more interesting, Rohit could score only 31 runs from three Tests in Australia. Surprisingly, he dropped himself from the SCG Test, the decision that surprised many. That said, in a latest interview, Rohit talked about unnecessary criticism, who bothered him a lot.
"Criticism is a part of a sports person's life. Criticism is necessary and important. But what I'm against is unnecessary criticism. I don't like it. There were a lot of things said about me. But I don't pay attention to any of it, and it doesn't affect me," Rohit said in an interview with Vimal Kumar.
"So many things have been said about me - like I can't play left-arm fast bowlers, and many other things - but now, I don't pay attention to it anymore. Now, if you go and defend it, a lot of things might go wrong. And you will be losing out on time, and time is precious. My work is to attack," he added.
