Rohit Sharma moves to career best 8th rank in latest ICC rankings

Elegant Indian opener Rohit Sharma has climbed six places to a career best eighth rank in the latest MRF Tyres ICC Men’s Test Player rankings. Rohit Sharma has been in top form in the ongoing Test series against England and is India’s leading run scorer with 296 runs in 6 innings including a hundred and a fifty. Rohit top-scored for India in the third Test with a classy 66 that helped him leapfrog the likes of Cheteshwar Pujara and David Warner who're settled at 10th and 9th respectively.

Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin too made heavy gains after scintillating performances in the third Test. Axar 11 wicket haul has helped him reach his career best 38th position in the bowlers ranking while Ashwin’s 7 wicket haul have pushed him four places to 3rd. Jack Leach also saw some gains and entered the top 30 for the first time. He’s settled at the 28th spot while Joe Root’s maiden 5 wicket haul saw him jump 16 places to 72nd rank. Zak Crawley played a top knock of 53 in the 1st innings and moved 15 places to 46th place.

Meanwhile, the ICC rankings will be done on weekly basis from March 2021. The women’s player rankings will be updated at 12.00 AM Dubai time each Tuesday and will include all the ODI and T20 performances till the previous day while the men's rankings will be calculated on every Wednesday. Earlier, the rankings were calculated at the end of the series in the case of ODI and T20Is, or at the end of a Test match but now they can be updated between the series as well.
