On Wednesday, October 29, former Indian skipper Rohit Sharma achieved the No.1 position in the newly released ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings for the first time in his career after his excellent performances in the three-match ODI series against Australia Down Under.

While Rohit could score only eight runs in the first ODI, he made a strong comeback in the second game, amassing 73 runs in Adelaide. Later in the third ODI, he smacked an impressive 121-run unbeaten knock to take India to a consolation win in the three-match series.
Moreover, Rohit was adjudged the player of the series for his exceptional outings in the last two ODIs of the series. Notably, he moved ahead of Shubman Gill and Ibrahim Zadran to emerge as the No.1 ODI batter. Rohit’s previous best ranking was the second spot that he first achieved in July 2018.
On the other hand, Indian vice-captain Shreyas Iyer, who scored 61 runs in the second ODI, moved up to the ninth rank, ascending one spot in the batting rankings. Meanwhile, Ibrahim Zadran briefly emerged as the No.1 batter during the second and third IND vs AUS ODIs when Gill slipped down to the third rank.
Moving to the bowling rankings, Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood ascended two spots to the eighth rank, while the premier spinner, Adam Zampa, moved two spots up to the 12th rank. On the other hand, Axar Patel rocketed six places to the 31st rank while Washington Sundar achieved 73rd rank, moving 22 spots up.
Delving into the details of the ICC Test Rankings, Pakistan middle-order batter Saud Shakeel moved up one place to 12th rank, and captain Shan Masood ascended five places to the 42nd rank, while South Africa’s Tony de Zorzi is up seven spots to the 47th rank.
On the other hand, South African veteran spinner Keshav Maharaj is up nine spots to 13th rank. His colleague Simon Harmer gained 26 spots to rocket to the 45th rank.
