The selection committee of the Indian Cricket Board has once again faced the wrath of fans and cricket experts. The Test squad was announced for the upcoming West Indies tour and many fans were not happy after seeing the selected players. The young batter from Mumbai, Sarfaraz Khan, who has been consistently performing in domestic cricket was once again ignored by the selectors.

Meanwhile, some of the Indian Cricket Board sources have revealed the reason behind the decision. The source claimed that there are multiple reasons why the 25-year-old batter is not in consideration. They believe that Sarfaraz’s fitness is not of international standard and he needs to lose weight which will be only beneficial for him.

"The angry reactions are understandable but I can tell you with some degree of certainty that the reason behind Sarfaraz getting ignored time and again is not just cricketing one. There are multiple reasons for which he hasn't been considered,” a source from the Indian Cricket Board was quoted as saying by India Today.

"Are the selectors fools to not consider a player who has scored 900 plus runs in successive seasons? One of the reasons is his fitness which isn't exactly of international standard. He has to work hard, maybe shed weight and comeback leaner and fitter as it's not just batting fitness that is the sole criteria for selection," the source added.

Sarfaraz's aggressive celebration in Ranji Trophy didn't go down well for him

Sarfaraz has played 37 matches in his first-class career and scored 3505 runs at a jaw-dropping average of almost 80 which included 9 fifties and 13 centuries. His last three Ranji Trophy seasons have been phenomenal as he scored 2566 runs in the 3 seasons. The source also revealed Sarfaraz’s gesture towards the selectors after he smashed a century against Delhi earlier this year wasn’t needed and he also needs to work on that and be disciplined.

"His conduct on and off the field hasn't exactly been top-notch. Certain things said, certain gestures made and some incidents have been taken note of. A bit more disciplined approach would only do him a world of good. Hopefully, Sarfaraz along with his father and coach Naushad Khan will work on those aspects," the source said.
