Rishabh Pant ruled out of 5th Test; BCCI announces updated squad

On Sunday, July 27, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to include the Tamil Nadu batter Narayan Jagadeesan for the fifth and final Test against England in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

The uncapped batter will replace Rishabh Pant, who fractured his foot during the fourth Test at Old Trafford in Manchester. Notably, Pant was hit on his toe while attempting a reverse sweep off Chris Woakes. Eventually, scans declared that he sustained a fracture.

"Rishabh Pant, who sustained a fracture to his right foot during the fourth Test against England in Manchester, has been ruled out of the fifth and final Test of the series," the BCCI said in a press release.

"The BCCI Medical Team will continue to monitor his progress, and the team wishes him a speedy recovery," the BCCI statement further read.

"The Men's Selection Committee has named Narayan Jagadeesan as a replacement for Rishabh Pant for the fifth Test, which begins on July 31, 2025, at Kennington Oval in London,” the statement concluded.

Speaking about Jagadeesan's first-class record, he has played 52 games, accumulating 3373 runs at an average of 47.5, with 10 centuries and 14 half-centuries, including a highest individual score of 321 runs in an innings.

The Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy stands at 2-1 with England still having the lead on their side. The fifth and final Test at Kennington Oval in London will offer India a chance to draw the series level at 2-2. The fifth Test is scheduled to start on Thursday, July 31.
