Wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant is having a dream run in international cricket. After playing a pivotal role in India’s historic win in Australia, the southpaw carried on his form in the home series against England. He stroked a magnificent 91 in the 1st Test in Chennai and then stroked a solid 58 on an extremely difficult Chepauk surface.
In addition to his top class batting, Pant has been very good behind the stumps as well. In the second test, Pant grabbed two brilliant catches and also pulled off a great stumping. His brilliant work behind the wickets earned him praises from the Aussie legend, Adam Gilchrist.
“Yesterday it was Foakes, today it’s @RishabhPant17 #brilliant,” Gilchrist wrote in a tweet. Pant reacted to Gilchrist’s tweet and wrote – “Thanks Means a lot coming from you.” Pant has in the past on several occasions said that Gilchrist used to be one of his idols growing up,” tweeted Gilchrist.
Replying to Gilchrist, Rishabh Pant wrote “ “Thanks Means a lot coming from you.” Pant many times has revealed that Adam Gilchrist was one of his childhood heros.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli also hailed Pant for his improved work behind the stumps, revealing how Pant has worked on his fitness which has helped him in delivering some great performances in the longest format of the game.
“He has really worked hard, … when he moves with the gloves you can see that difference in his reactions and reflexes,” Kohli said.
“He’s shed a lot of weight and he’s become quicker on his feet, and it’s showing. The way he kept on this pitch with so much turn and bounce was a credit to him for working so hard…. we want him to keep improving as a keeper, get stronger and stronger with his skillsets, because we understand how much value he brings to the team.” Kohli added.
