Rishabh Pant IPL 2025 team

Rishabh Pant broke all the records for the most expensive player ever sold in IPL auctions. He broke the previous records set by Shreyas Iyer (PBKS-INR 26.75 Crores) and Mitchell Starc (KKR-INR 24.75 Crores) in the recent IPL 2025 mega auction that was held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Rishabh Pant made his IPL debut in 2016 for the Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals) and spent 8 seasons with the franchise. He captained the franchise in IPL 2021 when Shreyas Iyer was out injured and remained captain even when Iyer returned.

Rishabh Pant was continuously retained by the Delhi Capitals as he rose in stature and matured and was named full-time captain in IPL 2022. He missed the IPL 2023 after he suffered life-threatening injuries in a car accident in December 2022.

After spending a whole year out of cricket, he made his return in IPL 2024 and then made it into the Indian team that won the ICC 2024 T20 World Cup. However, things went south soon after as Pant and DC owners disagreed about captaincy ambitions and pay rise.

Which team bought Rishabh Pant in the auction?

Hence, Rishabh Pant entered the IPL 2025 mega auction as one of the marquee names in the event. Pant was the penultimate player in the first round of marquee names, and his declaration elicited raucous applause in the auction hall.

LSG made the initial proposal for Pant, but Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) immediately joined the fight. A furious bidding war erupted, with paddles being raised at both the RCB and LSG tables.

SRH continued to bid aggressively for Pant, with LSG matching them every step of the way. LSG briefly clinched Pant for Rs 20.75 crore, but Delhi Capitals (DC) pondered invoking their Right to Match. LSG, undeterred, increased the stakes to Rs 27 crore, forcing DC to withdraw.

Lucknow Super Giants won the bid for Rishabh Pant for a record INR 27 crores, beating the values of Shreyas Iyer and Venkatesh Iyer, who fetched Rs 26.75 crore and Rs 23.75 crore, respectively.

LSG's investment in Pant meant that Shreyas Iyer's title as the most expensive player in tournament history was short-lived, as Punjab Kings had previously signed the Indian batter for Rs 26.75 crore.
