As the Edgbaston Test heads into an exciting Day Five on 6 July, Team India is in a strong position to level the series after losing the Leeds Test. While the focus is on sealing the win, a light-hearted moment off the field has caught fans' attention on social media.

A video clip from The Great India Kapil Show has gone viral. It features Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir, along with Rishabh Pant, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Abhishek Sharma. During the fun chat, Pant was asked: “Who is that one Jethani in the team who orders everyone around and acts bossy?”

Pant replied with a grin: “Rohit bhai is like that. Rohit bhai comes on strong.”

That’s when Gambhir jumped in and joked: “Ab toh retire ho gaya. Haan haan, lo le lo naam ab!” (“Now that he’s retired, go ahead and take his name!”) The witty remark drew laughter from the audience, as well as from Chahal and Abhishek on the couch.

Rohit Sharma’s sudden test retirement

The clip gained traction as it came shortly after Rohit Sharma's retirement from Test cricket, just before the England tour began. The move surprised many, as there had been no public hints about his decision. With this, Rohit has now retired from both T20Is and Tests, and will now only play ODIs for Team India.

Following Rohit's exit, Shubman Gill was appointed as India’s new Test captain, a decision that faced criticism due to his inconsistent record outside Asia — especially in SENA countries.

However, Gill has responded brilliantly. After scoring 147 in Leeds, he followed it up with a double century (269) and a century (161) in Edgbaston, leading from the front with the bat.

With India just seven wickets away from a famous win at Edgbaston, the fifth day holds great importance. A victory here would not only help level the series 1-1 but also ease pressure on head coach Gautam Gambhir, under whose tenure India's red-ball form has been under scrutiny.

With three Tests still to come, a win at Edgbaston could provide the much-needed momentum for both Gill’s leadership and India’s campaign.
