While most of the Indian batsmen struggled to resist the England bowling in Headingley, the way Rishabh Pant threw his wicket away left the fans most disappointed. Former Pakistan batsman Salman Butt came down hard on Rishabh Pant and said the southpaw does not have the technique and patience to perform in English conditions.

Pant is the fourth-highest run-getter in Test cricket this year but has only managed to accumulate 87 runs in the five innings so far in the series.

“Rishabh Pant doesn’t have the technique to succeed in English conditions. He cannot just walk down the track to bowlers. He can survive for a while like this or may play one or two good knocks.

"But, Rishabh Pant cannot become a successful Test batsman playing this way. He needs to develop some patience and also work on his defensive technique,” Butt said.

Butt added that Pant can succeed in conditions like India and Australia where the ball doesn’t seam that much but in England, where the Duke ball moves a lot, he is bound to struggle unless he works on his technique.

"In India, he can taste success, and Australia as well, because the ball doesn’t swing a lot.

"But wherever the ball swings or seams, Rishabh Pant will find it very difficult to tackle the challenges with the kind of technique he currently possesses,” he added.

England thrashed India by an innings and 76 runs in the third Test and it will be interesting to see how the visitors bounce back in the series.
