Star Indian batter Virat Kohli had a pretty ordinary Test series in the Border Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. Despite a fantastic hundred at Perth at the start of the series, Kohli could only muster 190 runs overall.
He was dismissed to deliveries outside off stump eight times in the series. This exposed his weakness to the deliveries outside off stump and in the corridor of uncertainty. With India's next Test series slated away to England in swinging conditions, Kohli will need to prepare really well.
His future is being speculated after an ordinary series against Australia and amidst this rumours have surfaced that the star batter might want to have a county stint ahead of the England series.
India's tour of England begins with the first Test to be played at Headingley, Leeds on June 20. Virat Kohli will be an integral part of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2025 season which is set to commence on March 14 and end on May 25.
If Kohli wants to get a county stint in before the Test series against England, it would be interesting to see whether he skips the playoffs for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Virat Kohli and the RCB factor
If RCB does not qualify for the playoffs, Kohli may get enough time to play a few county games before the England tour. However, if RCB plays the final on May 25, Kohli then gets just a little over two weeks to play county cricket and also prepare for the series against England. The question then lies as to whether that much time is enough.
Another crucial factor that could determine whether Kohli gets a County stint is whether the RCB hierarchy agrees to him leaving the team ahead of the playoffs.
The IPL has a lot at stake and stakeholders at RCB may not be willing to let go of Kohli's services if RCB qualifies for the playoffs. Only time will tell whether Kohli will get the county stint he is reportedly keen to have.
