Glenn Maxwell

Two time IPL winning captain and former Indian batsman, Gautam Gambhir believes that Royal Challengers Bangalore will be eyeing to bid for Glenn Maxwell in the upcoming IPL auction. Gambhir believes that Maxwell, who’s set his base price at INR 2 crore will earn big, even after his mediocre performance in the IPL 2020.

"There will be a couple of teams who will be eager to go into the auctions and buy the players they want. There is Kings XI Punjab, there is RCB, who will be looking to get some players to get their balance right. These sides will be very, very active in the auctions," Gambhir said on Star Sports

"There are teams who will be looking at someone like Maxwell. Surely, RCB will be looking at him. That is my personal opinion. Anything can happen at the auctions. But I feel Maxwell will go to RCB," Gambhir added.

Gambhir said that RCB have the likes of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Devdutt Paddikkal at the top thus a player like Glenn Maxwell, who can come in and provide a late flourish can be very handy for Bangalore.

"Because if I look at their entire batting line-up they have got, Virat Kohli will definitely be looking to open the batting, because that is where he has been most successful. Padikkal has done very, very well for them in the previous season. Then they have got AB, and then they can have someone like Maxwell - the X factor," he explained.

He further stated that Maxwell has been very good for Australia whenever he’s played at the Chinnaswamy, the home ground for RCB, so Bangalore has every reason to bid for him.

"And at Chinnaswamy, where he has done very well. Whenever he has played at Chinnaswamy, he has won games for Australia. So, I think, Maxwell will go to RCB. Depending on how much RCB will give for him, but I feel he would go for a lot of money," Gambhir concluded.

Maxwell looked in great touch in the T-20 series against India and played some fine knocks for Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League. He’s considered as one of the most destructive batsmen in the shorter format of the game. In the 82 matches he’s played in the IPL, he has 780 runs at an average of 22 and a strike rate of 154. The average definitely is a little on the lower side but he’s a player that will single handedly win the games for his team.
