The star Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is not a part of the Indian team since he sustained a freak injury knee during the Asia Cup 2022. Meanwhile, the 34-year-old also headed to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for rehabilitation and recovery from the injury. Due to the injury, he missed a couple of crucial assignments that featured the Indian team.
Recently, Jadeja’s teammate and veteran Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin have talked about preparations for the upcoming full-fledged four-match Test series against Australia next month in February. The 36-year-old opened up on his plans for the big clash against the Aussies and subsequently, he also hinted about the comeback of his colleague and senior all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja into the Test squad of India.
Ashwin also cleared the reason behind not participating in the Ranji Trophy for Tamil Nadu mentioning niggles and injuries that he has gone through in the meantime.
Here's what Ravichandran Ashwin said on the comeback of Ravindra Jadeja
"I put in a lot of work whenever a home series happens. I'm expecting (Ravindra) Jadeja to come through (be fit in time) but I like expanding more angles. I got some things in my head. I've been watching Australia play in Australia. I'd like to be working on some different angles, something new," said Ashwin to The New Indian Express while talking about his self-preparations and Jadeja’s comeback to the Test team.
Whenever India and Australia locked horns with each other in a red-ball series, the Chennai veteran had always been a crucial element and factor for both teams. His heroics in the 2020-21 Test series against Australia helped India to play a draw in Sydney. Apart from that, he also took the big wicket of former Aussie skipper and senior batter Steve Smith.
Speaking of his records against Australia, Ashwin has scalped 89 wickets in 18 Tests he played so far. Out of these 89 wickets, the 36-year-old has scalped 50 wickets on the home soil. Given that Australia hasn’t lifted the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in India since 2004, it would be very important for Ashwin to be completely available and fit as per the requirements of the team.
