Ravindra Jadeja opens up in heartfelt chat with Ravi Ashwin

After Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravichandran Ashwin retired from the longest format of cricket, Ravindra Jadeja is one of the few remaining experienced players in the Indian Test team.

The Indian cricket squad, which is composed primarily of youthful players, is viewed as the underdog heading into a five-match test series against England. As India begins their campaign for the upcoming World Test Championship cycle, Ravindra Jadeja will be the team's most seasoned and probably a key player as well.

Recently, Jadeja was on a podcast with his close friend and IPL teammate, Ravi Ashwin, on his YouTube channel. Ravichandran Ashwin asked former India teammate Ravindra Jadeja about his hopes of becoming captain during a rambling conversation. Ahead of the forthcoming tour of England, India appointed Shubman Gill as their new captain after Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma retired.

Ashwin questioned Jadeja on his YouTube channel if he had ever considered leading the Indian team in an episode that was recorded before the BCCI announced the lineup for the England tour.

"Test format is like that you have to just chance two fielders that to according to bowler not batter. I feel Test captaincy is different. It's simple. You have to think about when a bowler is in rhythm. It is a bit calculative but it is not like T20 or IPL. In T20, every ball is an event. Test format is not that hectic. I have experience as you said. I have played under so many captains. In tests, you do not have to shuffle batting order or look at left-right combination," stated Jadeja.

He then later mentioned, "Rest all I have achieved. Test captaincy. India captain. It is a very big thing," said Jadeja. Jadeja further credited Ashwin for seeing the talent in him to lead the country.

Jadeja has already demonstrated the demeanour, humility, and vision that characterise a true leader, regardless of whether he is selected to captain India in Test matches.
