Ravichandran Ashwin nominated for the ICC's Player of the Month award

Ace Indian spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin has been named as one of the contenders for ICC’s player of the month award for February. England skipper Joe Root and West Indies batsman Kyle Mayers are the other two nominees for the award.

The ICC recently introduced the player of the month award to celebrate the best performances of both male and female cricketers in that month. 

Ravichandran Ashwin has been in fine form of late. He had a stellar February and picked up 24 wickets at an astounding average of 15.7. He registered two five wicket hauls in the first two matches against England at Chennai. He also stroked a magnificent second inning century in the second Test. In the third Test, while Axar Patel dominated with the ball, he supported him well, picking up 7 wickets. He recently became the second fastest bowler to reach 400 Test wickets.

England skipper Joe Root, the other nominee also had a fantastic last month. He backed up his twin hundreds in Sri Lanka with a magnificent 218 in the first Test, leading his team to a terrific win. He registered his name in record books by becoming the only player to score a double hundred in his 100th Test. In the third game in Ahmedabad, Root picked up his maiden 5 wicket haul that helped England bundle out India for 145.

The final nominee in the list is Kyle Mayers, who broke multiple records on his way to an unbeaten 210 on debut, that saw West Indies beat Bangladesh in the test series. Mayers magnificent double hundred helped West Indies chase 395 in the fourth innings.

The shortlisted candidates will be voted by an independent ICC voting academy and fans around the world. The voting academy includes former players, senior Journalists, broadcasters and members of the ICC Hall of Fame.
