Jasprit Bumrah-led India came up short against Australia as the Aussies won the fifth Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy at the Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney and won the rolling trophy for the first time since 2014.
Chasing just 162 to win, the Aussies breathed a sigh of relief as Jasprit Bumrah wasn't on the park with the ball in hand. Bumrah bowled just ten overs in the first innings after which he left the field and had to go to the hospital to complete his scans. Prasidh Krishna at the end of play on Day 2 revealed that Bumrah had back spasms.
However, Bumrah was there on the ground enough to be caught in a controversy. While Bumrah removed his shoes and wore them again, a tube fell from his pocket which he quickly put back in.
Fans on Twitter (now known as X) claimed that it was a foreign object that Bumrah had been using to tamper with the ball. However, Ravichandran Ashwin was having none of it as he jumped into one of the conversations and replied that it was a finger protection pad.
“Breaking: India are being investigated by the ICC for ball tampering. This comes after an undisclosed item fell out of fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah’s shoe,” a user wrote.
“That’s a finger protection pad,” Ashwin replied.

Bumrah-less India couldn't stop Australia from reaching the target
India had been dealt a heavy blow when Jasprit Bumrah did not walk out with the team to bowl. The back spasms meant that Bumrah wasn't able to bowl and that meant that the Indian team was a pacer short.
India did manage to pick up four wickets, but the likes of Beau Webster and Travis Head took Australia home with six wickets to spare. This also meant that Australia won the series 3-1 and won the Border Gavaskar Trophy for the first time since 2014. Bumrah was the Player of the Series for India with as many as 32 wickets to his name.
