“It is not going to be easy” - Ravi Shastri offers a piece of advice to Shubman Gill ahead of England tour

Former Team India head coach Ravi Shastri has offered a piece of advice to the new Indian Test captain, Shubman Gill, ahead of his first Test as the captain against England, scheduled to start on June 20 at Headingley, Leeds.

Notably, Gill is expected to take up Virat Kohli’s vacant No.4 position in the batting order. Shastri, speaking on the latest episode of the ICC Review, stated that patient and composure will play key roles for Gill in his first assignment as skipper.

Furthermore, Shastri asserted that it’s never going to be easy for the new captain as he has been asked to do a tough job of captaining India on a tour of England. Notably, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will not be a part of this tour after announcing their retirements. 

“I think, take your time. It’s not going to be easy. He's been asked to do a tough job, that is to captain India on a tour of England,” Ravi Shastri told Gill on the ICC Review.

In the longest format of the game, Gill has accumulated 1893 runs from 32 games at an average of 35.05 after he made his debut in 2020. Moreover, the former Indian cricketer felt Gill will learn a lot from the England tour’s exposure. 

“It's never easy, but I think he will learn from this exposure. What I saw of him in the IPL with the Gujarat Titans, he seemed very composed and calm. He's got a good temperament,” Shastri added.

"He's matured as an individual, he's got some young players around with him, and I think it's a learning curve as far as Shubman Gill goes,” said Shastri.
