The last decade saw Bollywood trying out its hands on a new sub-genre - Biopics. Director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra directed a movie based on the life of legendary sprinter Milkha Singh, named 'Bhaag Milka Bhaag’. The immense success of the movie saw a string of such movies being released in the coming few years. Former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was the first cricketer to have agreed to a movie on his life story. The movie turned out to be a blockbuster. Then it was the turn of legendary Sachin Tendulkar. Tendulkar’s biopic too received massive appreciation. There was a biopic made on former Indian skipper Mohammad Azharuddin as well.

However, fans were eagerly waiting for a biopic on Bengal Tiger, Sourav Ganguly. Their wish is soon set to become a reality as Ganguly himself has confirmed the reports of his biopic.

“Yes, I agreed with the biography. It’s in Hindi, but I can’t say the director’s name right now. It will take a few more days to get everything in place,” Ganguly recently confirmed.

It is learnt that Ranbir Kapoor is the front runner to emulate Ganguly on screen. The movie will be made with a budget of around 200-250 crore and will depict several aspects of Ganguly’s life such as his life as a youngster, becoming an international cricketer, leading the national team before taking up various administrative roles in the cricket setup.

Earlier, few reports suggested that Hrithik Roshan was set to play Ganguly in collaboration with Karan Johar’s Dharma Production. However, a deal couldn’t be cracked. Later, filmmaker Ekta Kapoor and Fox Star Studios also approached Ganguly. However, he reportedly declined those offers.
