On 22 April 2023, Mumbai Indians (MI) locked horns with Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the ongoing IPL at Wankhede Stadium. MI came to this clash after a win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). On the other hand, PBKS came to this match after a defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

So, MI were on three back-to-back winning match streak. Hence, Rohit Sharma and his men were looking to continue that momentum in front of the home crowd. Speaking of the match, Rohit won the toss and asked PBKS to bat first. For PBKS, Prabhsimran Singh and Matthew Short came out to open.

MI fell short by 13 runs while chasing 215 runs 

But, MI bowlers looked in full rhythm as PBKS lost their four wickets for 83 runs in 9.4 overs. Short scored 11 runs off 10 balls and Prabhsimran scored 26 runs off 17 balls. Then, Atharva Taide scored 29 runs. But, Liam Livingstone failed again as he scored only 10 runs off 12 balls. After that, skipper Sam Curran and Harpreet Singh put up a partnership of 92 runs. Curran scored 55 runs off 29 balls, including five fours and four sixes. Harpreet scored 41 runs off 28 balls, including four fours and two sixes. After them, Jitesh Sharma played an unthinkable knock as he scored 25 runs off seven balls, including four sixes.

Finally, PBKS  scored 214 runs for eight wickets in 20 overs. For MI, both Piyush Chawla and Cameron Green took two wickets each. For the chase, MI skipper Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan came out as openers. But, Ishan scored only one run and Rohit scored 44 runs off 27 balls. After that, both Suryakumar Yadav and Cameron Green started to hit PBKS bowlers all around the park. Green scored 67 runs off 43 balls, including six fours and three sixes. Suryakumar also played an outstanding knock of 57 runs off 26 balls, including seven fours and three sixes. Finally, MI scored 201 runs for six wickets in 20 overs and lost the match by 13 runs.
