As we move into the business end of the PSL 6, every game stands of utmost importance now. The points table is evenly poised with as many as three teams tied on six points. Peshawar Zalmi will have an opportunity to move up the table when they take on a depleted Quetta Gladiators. Both teams succumbed to defeats in their previous games. While Peshawar Zalmi lost a hard-fought battle to Lahore Qalandars, Quetta Gladiators were blown away by Islamabad United inside 10 overs.
Despite their poor on-field performances, Quetta does look a decent team on paper. With players like Faf du Plessis, Azam Khan, Jake Weatherald, Sarfaraz Ahmed at disposal, they have plenty of firepower in their kitty. The execution though has been very poor from them. But that doesn’t take away the quality and any day the players click together, Quetta will be a force to reckon with. There will be few injury concerns in the Quetta camp with Andre Russell being hit on the head against Islamabad. It’s unlikely that he will take field against Peshawar. Given the slow conditions, Quetta may look to bring in Zahir Khan as his replacement.
Peshawar Zalmi will be disappointed that they could not fetch a victory despite dominating Islamabad United for most part of the game. They had no answers to the spin web of Rashid Khan and lost the game by 10 runs. However, they boast of a very strong side and they will be keen to prove that the loss against Islamabad was a minor blip. With players like Shoaib Malik, David Miller, Wahab Riaz, they have players that bring in tons of experience and are tailor made for pressure situations. In addition, players like Haider Ali, Rovman Powell and Sherfane Rutherford are match-winners on their day. One would feel that if Peshawar could match their on paper potential, they will be a hard nut to crack. However, if Quetta can also do the same, we will have a stellar contest at display.
The underlying nature of the wickets have been on the slower side. It’s not easy to score against the spinners and a hard new ball will be the best opportunity to score. The batsmen need to get used to the pace before cutting loose. Once set, there will be plenty of run-scoring opportunities.
