Former Indian opener Prithvi Shaw is all set to represent a new state association in the upcoming domestic season as he has sought a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association.
According to reports published on Cricbuzz, Shaw, the 25-year-old batter, has received offers from three to four states, and he would be considering his options and finalizing a team in due course.
Interestingly, Shaw's last game for Mumbai came in December 2024, and he has been axed from the Mumbai Ranji team due to fitness concerns. MCA Secretary Abhay Hadap has confirmed to Cricbuzz that MCA has informed Shaw’s decision to the apex council members.
"He has just sent us a letter seeking NOC. We have informed the Apex Council members. We will issue the NOC soon," Abhay Hadap, the secretary of the MCA, told Cricbuzz
In his letter, Shaw wrote that he has been presented with a promising opportunity to play professional cricket under another state association. He also wrote that he came to this decision after careful consideration.
"At this juncture of my career, I have been presented with a promising opportunity to play professional cricket under another State Association, which I believe will further contribute to the growth and development as a cricketer. In light of this, I kindly request you to issue me a No Objection Certificate (NOC) that will enable me to officially represent the new state association in the upcoming domestic season," Shaw said in his letter to the MCA.
"Please be assured that this decision has been made after careful consideration, and with utmost respect for the MCA. I remain ever grateful to the association for the guidance and platform provided over the years," the letter further read.
After making his international debut in 2018 against the West Indies in Rajkot, Shaw's last game for Team India came in July 2021 against Sri Lanka in Colombo. In his international career, Shaw has played only five Tests, six ODIs, and a T20I.
