Former England captain Kevin Pietersen has urged fans and supporters to back team India. The former batter’s comments came after the Indian cricket team was slammed on social media due to their abject eight-wicket loss against New Zealand in the ongoing 20-20 World Cup. The loss follows a 10-wicket defeat against Pakistan. With two losses in two games, India are staring at a group stage exit from the showpiece event.

The disappointed fans couldn't take the loss sportingly, with few of them coming down hard on the team. Taking to Twitter, Pietersen said that one cannot expect the players to perform in every game. He also asked the fans to put their weights behind the team during tough times.

“There is a winner and a loser in the game. No player goes out to lose. It is the greatest honour to represent your country. Please realize that the people in the game are not robots and they need support at all times,” tweeted Pietersen in Hindi.

Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir also came forward to support India and said the team is one of the best teams and it is just a matter of having good days and bad days. “I still believe India is the best team it’s just a matter of having a good time or bad time but abusing players and their family is such a shame don’t forget the end of the day it’s just a game of cricket,” Amir Tweeted.

India batters failed to put a big score and were reduced to just 110-7. In reply, New Zealand finished the match with 33 balls to spare and eight wickets in hand.
