Former India cricketer Piyush Chawla has revealed his choice for India’s XI for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 matches. The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will be hosted by Pakistan and UAE from February 19 to March 9.
The eight-team event will see the participating sides being divided into two groups. Group A has India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and New Zealand, while Group B has Australia, England, South Africa, and Afghanistan.
Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Karachi will host the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 matches in Pakistan, while Dubai will host all India matches as per the hybrid model.
No Harshit Rana and Rishabh Pant
Piyush Chawla, a former India leg-spinner and member of the 2011 World Cup-winning squad, has forecasted India's likely starting XI for the forthcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
While responding to a SportsInfo question at the One World One Family Cup 2025 event on the outskirts of Bengaluru, Chawla discussed India's strongest lineup under Rohit Sharma.
According to Chawla, India's opening partnership would be skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, with Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer in the middle. KL Rahul is expected to occupy the No. 5 spot and will also handle wicketkeeping duties.
Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja are all-rounders who will give depth to both the batting and bowling lineups. Chawla chose two main seamers: Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami. However, Bumrah's participation is still doubtful due to fitness issues.
Piyush Chawla's predicted India playing XI is Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah (if fit), and Mohammed Shami.
India is now playing a three-match ODI series against England at home, their first 50-over assignment since a 0-2 loss to Sri Lanka in August 2024. The team won the first two ODIs in Nagpur and Cuttack.
Piyush Chawla’s India XI for ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Rohit Sharma (C), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (WK), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami
