MS Dhoni and his men were in action in the ongoing Indian T20 League 2023 on 3 April in Chennai. After losing their season opener against Gujarat, they hosted Lucknow at their home. Hover, they did not disappoint their home fans and registered a 12-run victory. But, Chennai bowlers were not up to the mark once again.

While defending 218 runs, they conceded 205 runs and managed to take seven wickets. But, they bowled three no-balls and 13 wides throughout that innings. As a result, they provided 18 runs as extras. Therefore, during the post-match presentation ceremony, MS Dhoni opened up about the same performance and sent a stern warning to his bowlers.

“They'll have to bowl no no-balls or extra wides, or they'll have to play under a new captain.” - MS Dhoni

MS Dhoni said that bowlers need to stop bowling no-balls and wides otherwise they will have to play under a new captain. It meant that the Chennai skipper was so frustrated that he sent the warning and opened the door of stepping down from captaincy if such performances continue from his bowlers. He said: "Fast bowling we need to slightly improve. Need to bowl according to the conditions. What is important is to keep an eye as to what the opposition bowlers are doing. One more thing is they'll have to bowl no no-balls or extra wides, or they'll have to play under a new captain. It will be my second warning and then I'll be off".

Hearing such a statement, fans went crazy and shared their views on the social media platform. In the last match, Rajvardhan Hangargekar took three wickets but gave extras. After that match, Dhoni talked about that in the post-match interviews and former cricketers like Sunil Gavaskar and Ian Bishop shared that during the commentary. Bishop said: "We spoke to Dhoni after the last match. he said (Rajvardhan) Hangargekar did exceptionally well but no-balls are unacceptable. He said in the (post-match) interview". While Gavaskar said: "Maybe they should have some sort of penalty within the team".
