Michael Bracewell, the New Zealand spin-bowling allrounder is currently busy playing for Worcestershire in the ongoing T20 Blast in England. However, on 9 June 2023, while batting against Yorkshire, he collapsed mid-pitch clutching his right leg and retired hurt while chasing 225 runs.
Now, he is set to go under surgery and a lengthy rehab session. As a result, this Kiwi all-rounder is going to miss the upcoming 2023 ODI World Cup later in India. Hence, it has become another major blow for the Kiwis after their star batter, Kane Williamson is most likely to miss the tournament also due to his knee injury.
“He was shaping as an important player for us at the world cup in India.” - Gary Stead on Bracewell
Kane suffered the injury in the recently concluded IPL while playing for Gujarat Titans (GT). But, due to that, after the opening match, he left the camp. Now he is busy getting recovered as soon as possible for a comeback. Speaking of Bracewell’s injury, the Kiwi head coach, Gary Stead said: "Firstly, you always feel for the player when injury strikes and especially when it means they will have to miss a world event.”
“Michael's a great team man and has had a fantastic 15 months for the BlackCaps since his international debut. We've seen his exceptional skills in all three facets of the game and he was shaping as an important player for us at the world cup in India. Michael's naturally pretty disappointed, but also pragmatic in acknowledging that injuries are a part of sport and he's now turning his focus to his rehabilitation," he further added.
Bracewell recently was a part of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the recently concluded IPL as he replaced injured Will Jacks. In five matches, he grabbed six wickets. In the last tour of India, Bracewell impressed everyone with his quick run-scoring ability along with some handy off-spin. As a result, he was also named the ODI Player of the Year.

Honestly most people lost interest in New Zealand cricket since Kane's injury. Now I don't think they will be able to make it to the semi-finals in Kane's absence. So it means that these are the 4 teams that will qualify for the semis. India, Australia, England, South Africa.
