Peshawar Zalmi

A stunning spell from Wahab Riaz leads Peshawar Zalmi to a comprehensive 6 wicket victory over Islamabad United. Opting to bowl, Peshawar bowlers were right on the money and blew away the Islamabad batting, bowling them out for a paltry 118 in 17.1 overs. Wahab Riaz led from the front and decimated the lower middle order, ending the match with figures of 4-17 n 4 overs.

Earlier, Islamabad got off to the worst possible start, losing Paul Stirling in the first over itself. The wicket had no impact on Alex Hales who played some cracking shots, getting  Islamabad's inning back on track. While Hales looked in top form, other batsmen failed to tackle the quality Zalmi bowling. Philip Salt, Faheem Ashraf, Shadab Khan were dismissed in quick succession, leaving Islamabad United reeling at 55-4. Alex Hales too lost his wicket after a well made 41 off 27 deliveries. Some late flourish from Hussain Talat and Asif Ali helped Islamabad cross 100, which was never going to be sufficient. Along with Riaz, Saqib Mahmood also picked up 3 wickets.

The target wasn’t a daunting one and Peshawar wiped it out without breaking a sweat. They didn’t get off to a good start and lost both their openers, Kamran Akmal and Imam ul Haq, inside 2 overs. However, Tom Kohler-Cadmore (46) continued his good run and stitched a 63 run stand with Shoaib Malik (29*) for the third wicket. Haider Ali joined Malik post Cadmore's dismissal and played a scintillating knock of 36 of 18 deliveries as Peshawar cruised to a 6 wicket victory.

With this win, Peshawar Zalmi moves to the helm of the points table with 6 points. They are followed by Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United who’re settled at 2nd 3rd and 4th respectively
