Since the former India cricketer Chetan Sharma left his position as head of selectors for the senior men's Indian cricket team more than six months ago as a result of a television channel sting operation, the Indian Cricket Board has been looking for a replacement. In that sting operation film, he said contentious things about players like Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya.

Meanwhile, former legendary Indian fast bowler Ajit Agarkar who applied for the role of chief selector of the Indian team is currently the front-runner to be selected for the post, according to Sports Tak. Many fans have reacted to the report, some have supported the news while some said that he will favour the players who belong to Mumbai.

Agarkar has played for the nation in 221 international matches and has bagged 349 wickets in 237 innings. Agarkar has 58 Test wickets, 288 ODI wickets, and three T20 wickets to his credit. In 154 innings of the same amount of international games, he has amassed 1855 runs in terms of his batting performance. Shiv Sunder Das, a 23-time Test veteran and top cricketer for Odisha, has temporarily taken over for Sharma as the panel's chairman. S Sharath (South), Subroto Banerjee (Central), and Salil Ankola (West) are the other selectors on the panel at the moment.

However, there were also some rumours that the former legendary Indian batter Virender Sehwag might become the chief selector but he himself refused all the rumours recently. Meanwhile, an official from the Indian Cricket Board said that the amount is too less for someone like Sehwag as a member of the Indian selection committee earns around INR 1 crore per year.

“During CoA’s time, Viru was asked to apply for the head coach’s job and then it went to Anil Kumble. It is unlikely he will apply himself and also the pay package isn’t something that will be financially viable for someone of his stature,” an Indian Cricket Board official was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
