PCB set to punish Pakistan T20I captain Salman Ali Agha after three defeats to India in Asia Cup 2025

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to punish Salman Ali Agha after Pakistan lost to India thrice including in the final of Asia Cup 2025 under his captaincy. The defeats came in the Group A match on September 14, the Super Fours clash on September 21, and the final on September 28.

The Asia Cup final was very disappointing for Pakistan. After reaching 113 for one, the squad fell to 146 all out, losing nine wickets for 33 runs. Kuldeep Yadav of India contributed significantly, capturing four wickets for 30 runs. 

Tilak Varma's 69-run effort helped India win by two wickets as they chased down 147. The victory earned India its sixth Asia Cup title and showed Pakistan's inability to withstand pressure in crucial games.

Pakistan's worries were heightened by Agha Salman's performance during the competition. With a strike rate of 80.90 and an average of 12, he scored just 72 runs in seven games. His leadership choices were also criticized, especially in the wake of India's recurrent defeats.

PTI has reported that Salman Ali Agha is set to be removed as Pakistan T20I captain in the aftermath of Asia Cup 2025 debacle. As part of a larger plan to get ready for the 2026 T20 World Cup, which will be hosted in India and Sri Lanka, the adjustment is anticipated to go into effect once Shadab Khan recovers from shoulder surgery next month. 

Shadab Khan was chosen by the PCB because of his track record of success and leadership. In addition to serving as vice-captain and having played in 112 Twenty20 Internationals for Pakistan, Shadab has led clubs in other franchise leagues across the globe.
