Former Pakistan cricketer Atiq-uz-Zaman took to social media to slam the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) over the official player kits and jerseys being used in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025.
He accused the board of corruption and criticized the poor-quality jerseys worn by the players in Wednesday’s match against the United Arab Emirates.
Pakistan secured their spot in the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup 2025 with a 41-run victory over the UAE in Dubai. Batting first, Pakistan posted 146/9, with Fakhar Zaman scoring 50. At 110/7, they were rescued by Shaheen Shah Afridi’s late cameo of 29* off 14 balls.
In reply, the UAE faltered and were bowled out for 105, failing to build partnerships. Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Abrar Ahmed claimed two wickets each. Pakistan will next face India in the Super Fours on Sunday, September 21, in Dubai.
‘Corruption drips more than sweat’- Former Pakistan player accuses PCB for providing below par kits
Atiq-uz-Zaman pointed out that Pakistani players were sweating heavily through their kits, unlike other teams with proper dry-fit uniforms, and alleged that the PCB handed the kit contract to “friends instead of professionals.”
"Pakistan players sweating through low-quality kits while others wear proper dry-fits. This is what happens when tenders go to friends, not professionals. Corruption dripping more than the sweat," Zaman posted on X.
As they prepare for a high-stakes Asia Cup Super-Four match against India on September 21, Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha has urged his squad to improve their middle-overs batting.
His remarks followed Pakistan's 41-run triumph against the United Arab Emirates, which guaranteed them a spot in the tournament's next round but did little to conceal the team's persistent batting shortcomings.
“We got the job done but we needed to bat better in the middle overs. The bowlers did well. We haven't batted our best yet. If we batted well, we would have ended up with 170-180. Shaheen is a match winner. His batting has improved. Abrar has been outstanding. He is someone who is bringing us back into the games. We are ready for any challenge. If we play good cricket, we can be good against any side,” Agha said after the match.
