Just a few days back, former veteran Indian off-spinner and currently Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh went on to accuse the Punjab Cricket Association President Gulzar Inder Singh Chahal of doing ‘unlawful’ activities and corruption in the Association. Harbhajan also questioned the induction of 150 members with voting rights in the Association.

Subsequently, in a recent and major piece of news, Chahal resigned from the position of President yesterday evening. Later on, he also spoke about his resignation

“I have resigned from the post of PCA president from immediate effect due to personal reasons,” Chahal told to Indian Express. Earlier, Chahal was on the receiving end of criticism for the appointment of his personal auditor in the state cricket association, and a complaint was filed to the ethics officer and ombudsman Inderjit Singh.

Although, Chahal opted to say nothing on the issue with a statement, “Since I have resigned, this issue does not arise now.”

Chahal is a former junior player and his team was elected to PCA earlier this year 2022 when the then president Rajinder Gupta happened to resign before the end of his tenure in the association. PCA Apex council members and the executive committee also took a notice of this induction of the new members.

These inductions are being done without the knowledge of the apex council - Harbhajan Singh

Speaking on the whole issue, World Cup winnerand former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh questioned the state cricket association over the induction of 150 members with voting rights.

“PCA is trying hard to induct 150 members with voting rights to keep the balance in their favor, and these inductions are being done without the knowledge of the apex council/general body and without consulting the Chief Advisor,” said Harbhajan Singh to Indian Express.

A member of the PCA Apex Council has also spoken about the matter and about the individuals who came to the association in some sort of form with them.

“We got to know when some of the persons came to PCA earlier this week with the alleged forms, we can call them Parchi instead, and hence the complaint was filed,” said an Apex Council member.
