Northern Superchargers locked horns with the Birmingham Phoenix in the 19th match of The Hundred 2022. Both teams played this match at Birmingham’s Edgbaston. The hosts’ captain won the toss and asked the Northern Superchargers to bat first. Skipper Faf du Plessis and Adam Lyth opened the batting for the visitors.

They both provided a blistering start to Superchargers. Eventually, du Plessis fell prey to Tom Helm. Whereas, Adam Lyth took the charge and started batting in an explosive mode. Although, his inning ended at 56 runs by the Phoenix skipper. Star batter harry brook couldn’t score any big score on Friday.

Birmingham Phoenix lost the match by 32 runs

There were quite a bit of high expectations from David Willey but he went back to the dugout only on the second ball. Later on, Imran Tahir scalped the wicket of John Simpson and it was like a turning point for the Superchargers.

The Birmingham-based franchise finally could score a total of 169 runs for the loss of six wickets in the allotted 100 balls. Miles Hammond was the only top scorer for the team in the innings, he played a knock of 31 runs, and the rest other batters failed to face even the count of a total of ten balls.

The middle order collapse really backfired for the hosts as it took them out of the game. Benny Howell couldn’t convert his 22-run-knock into a defining one and he went back to the pavilion too early. Eventually, Phoenix couldn’t cross the line and lost the match by 32 runs.

The cricket fans took to Twitter for criticizing Phoenix after their poor run chase against the Superchargers. Some of the fans went on to say that it was a modest target that could have been chased easily but the poor display of batting from the batters of Phoenix let them fall short of the target.
