India are set to host the upcoming Women’s ODI World Cup starting from September 30. The opening ceremony of the mega event is scheduled in Guwahati with famous singer Shreya Ghoshal set to enchant the spectators with her melodious voice. However, it is understood that the Pakistan cricket team will not be attending the opening ceremony.

According to Geo News, neither captain Fatima Sana nor any other representative from Pakistan team will travel to India to attend the ceremony on September 30. Pakistan’s absence stems from the policy adopted by both nations ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy.

Pakistan and Indian cricket teams will not be travelling to each other’s nations to compete in any multinational tournaments in the next three years. Moreover, the tensions that escalated between the two countries earlier this year have also made things worse.

Accordingly, the upcoming Men’s T20 Asia Cup, starting from September 9, is also being played in the UAE despite India being the hosts.

Pakistan Women’s team to play all its matches in Colombo

As per the recent policy, the Pakistan team will play all its World Cup matches in Colombo t the R Premadasa Stadium. They will start their campaign against Bangladesh on October 2 while the Harmanpreet Kaur led team India will also travel to Colombo for the marquee clash against the arch-rivals scheduled on October 5 (Sunday).

Moreover, if Pakistan progress to the semifinals, Colombo will host the first semifinal on October 29 and the final as well if the Women in Green go that far.

For the unversed, Pakistan qualified for the World Cup in India by winning the qualifiers played at home. They won all five matches at the event and secured their place for the mega event.
