Pakistan squad for Asia Cup 2025 announced; two veteran players excluded

PCB selection committee has announced a strong Pakistan squad for the forthcoming tri-series and Asia Cup 2025, with Salman Ali Agha continuing to lead the national team. The tri-series will be played from August 29, involving the UAE, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.

Pakistan will move to the Asia Cup 2025 with confidence after winning the T20I series in the West Indies 2-1, coming back strongly from a 2-1 series defeat against Bangladesh away from home in July 2025. 

The squad includes the star players like Fakhar Zaman, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Faheem Ashraf, Saim Ayub, Hasan Nawaz, and Mohammad Haris. However, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, who last played a T20I in December 2024, have been excluded from the squad.

The Asia Cup, which is set to begin on September 9, will have Pakistan opening their campaign against Oman on September 12 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai. Drawn in Group A, Pakistan will face arch-rivals India, Oman, and hosts the UAE.

Moving into the details of the Asia Cup 2023, which was played in the ODI format, Pakistan lost two of their three Super 4 games and couldn’t make it to the grand finale. Earlier in the Asia Cup 2022 campaign, which was played in the T20I format, Pakistan ended as the runners-up to Sri Lanka.
