Steve Smith recently impressed everyone with his captaincy abilities during the India tour. After Pat Cummins went back to Australia, he led the team in two Tests and in the three-match ODI series. The Aussies won one and drew one Test. They also won the ODI series by a margin of 2-1.
However, he will be not in action in the upcoming Indian T20 League 2023. Steve Smith was not a part of the auction. He was a part of the mega auction that took palace before the 2022 edition of the tournament. But. no franchises showed any interest in him as he went unsold. Smith last played in this rich-vein league in 2021 for the Delhi franchise.

In that season, he scored just 152 runs in eight matches, at an average of 25.33. However, he recently scored two quickfire centuries in the last Big Bash League for the Sydney Sixers. Now, on 27 March 2023, the Aussie batter shared a video where he was seen announcing that he iss going to join a team for the upcoming edition of the tournament. In that video, Smith said: “Namaste India! I got some exciting news for you. I am joining Indian T20 League 2023. Yes, that’s right. I am joining an exceptional and passionate team in India.” Listening to that from the star batter, fans went crazy.
But, some reports have been circulated that Smith will be seen doing commentary in this upcoming edition of the tournament. However, some fans have also claimed that the Kolkata franchise might be the team that he has been talking about as they are looking for a skipper after Shreyas Iyer’s unavailability due to injury. Speaking about Smith’s career in the tournament, he has played 103 matches and scored 2485 runs, including one century. As of now, he has played for four different franchises so far.
