India locked horns with New Zealand in the second game of the ongoing three-match T20I series. The Men in Blue again went with young players in this series under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy. Rahul Tripathi was one of those players who got a nod ahead of others. In the last T20I series at home, Rahul Tripathi finally received his debut cap for India.

Rahul Tripathi has been a terrific performer in recent days in the Indian T20 League. In 76 matches, he has scored 1798 runs at an average of 28.09. Rahul had a fantastic 2022 season as he scored 413 runs in 14 matches, at an average of 37.55. But, he has failed to score big runs so far in four international innings.

Rahul Tripathi scored only 13 runs off 18 balls in the second T20I against the Kiwis

In the Sri Lanka series, he scored 40 runs in two matches. In the third and final T20I against the Lankans, he showed some glimpses when Rahul scored 35 runs off 16 balls, including five fours and two sixes. He also batted at a strike rate of 218.75. So, fans were hoping for better and more consistent performances from this batter in this ongoing New Zealand series. But, he has failed miserably so far in two matches. In the series opener, Rahul scored a six-ball duck while in the second match, he scored 13 runs off 18 balls.

During his stay in the crease, Rahul Tripathi managed only one boundary. It was a great opportunity for him to play a solid knock while chasing 100 runs. But, he failed to do so. Even, fans criticized him for running Ishan Kishan out in the match. As of now, Rahul Tripathi has played four T20Is where he has scored 53 runs in four innings, at an average of 13.25. Fans also claimed that he has not looked at as an international product despite being a consistent performer in the Indian T20 League.
