The inaugural edition of the Oman D20 League got underway on December 21, 2021. The T20 tournament is a domestic league launched by Oman Cricket Association to promote cricket in the country. The league will also allow youngsters to showcase their class on a bigger platform.
In the first game of the tournament, Qurum Thunders and Bousher Busters were set to cross swords but play was not possible as the teams left the Al Amerat Cricket Ground with points shared. The second match between Ruwi Rangers and Ghubrah Giants on December 21 was also cancelled due to unfavourable playing conditions and weather.
After a frustrating opening day, the D20 tournament finally kicked off with Amerat Royals and Khuwair Warriors playing match 3 on Wednesday (December 22). It was a fairly one-sided match, with the Warriors managing to win by six wickets. Batting first, the Royals could only post 129 in 18.1 overs. Rafiullah M top scored with 44 and Sankata Prasad chipped in with 29 runs. However, the duo could not get support from the rest of the batters.
The Warriors were spot on with the bowling, with Muzahir Raza and Arjun Suresh Dhiman picking three wickets each. In the run-chase, Warriors opening batter Zeeshan Siddiqui scored 57 and guided the team to victory with 11 balls to spare.
Meanwhile, in the second game of the day, Darsait Titans beat Azaiba XI by 47 runs. It was a commanding display by Titans with the bat and ball. Batting first, the Titans posted a challenging 152 on account of Lakpriya Mudunkothge’s 58. Skipper Zeeshan Maqsood also scored 35. Later, their bowlers restricted Azaiba Xi to just 105. Sachin Kumar Jagra was the star with the ball picking three wickets. The Titans are currently leading the points table, with two points. Warriors are placed second with the same number of points.
