Indian women’s cricket team have hit the headlines for their stunning win against England. Albeit Jhulan Goswami’s retirement became a moment, Deepti Sharma’s run-out at the non-striker’s end became the hot topic.
Any team would love to compete to win and so did the Indian women’s cricket team. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led team did all they can to get the match closer and Deepti Sharma won it for India in the end. Recently, the Cricket’s governing body put an end to the term ‘Mankad’ and called it run out at the non-striker’s end.
However, Deepti Sharma ended up at the receiver’s end as she came up with a run-out at the non-striker’s end to clinch the win for India. The Indian women’s cricket team clinched the win in the third ODI and sealed the series 0-3.
Deepti Sharma does it for the Indian women’s cricket team
Speaking of the match, the England women’s cricket team opted to bowl first. The Indian top order started falling like a pack of cards and made things tougher for India. However, Smriti Mandhana inspired the lower order to not give up on her half-century.
Deepti Sharma, who joined the list of Smriti Mandhana scored a valiant half-century to take the team’s total to 169. Speaking of England’s chase, the batters walked the path of the Indian women’s cricket team. The team crumbled right from the start and the English team lost seven wickets for just 65 runs.
However, Charlotte Dean held the fort at the other end and kept fighting with all her might. In the end, Deepti Sharma, who outclassed with the bat, dismissed Dean at the non-striker’s end for moving out of the crease. The umpires declared the rule in favour of India and the team clinched the match by sixteen runs.
However, the cricketers who witnessed the scenes took it to Twitter to express their disbelief. Stuart Broad, who got frustrated with the scene, slammed Deepti Sharma and called it terrible. However, many Indian cricketers and experts backed the star and said that it was fair.
Let’s take a look at how cricketers reacted to the same:
As Nasser Hussain said on commentary. “No.” https://t.co/BItCNJZqYB

There’s surely not a person who has played the game that thinks this is acceptable?
Just not cricket… https://t.co/VLGeddDlrz

It would be questioned for a long time but it’s in the law of the games. You can be run out by #mankading.
Bear in mind it’s in the laws of the game. #ENGvsIND— Monty Panesar (@MontyPanesar) September 24, 2022
Will never understand why players feel the need to do this. Is she stealing ground? pic.twitter.com/KJi1Rgzmdi

It shouldn’t be difficult for the non striker to stay in their crease til the ball has left the hand…

Well within the laws but not in the spirit.
Just my opinion… the law should be changed back to a warning system or penalty runs for excessive backing up for eg
— Sam Billings (@sambillings) September 24, 2022
Spot on. No intention of bowling the ball 🤬
